IMPROVING
ACCESIBILITY

RUSHOLME

The project site is a corner property in the Rusholme and Fallowfield Conservation Area, Greater Manchester. The property dates from 1926 and features and unique two storey curved bay window on the corner, topped by a ‘tudoresque’ overhanging gabled roof. Rectangular bay windows and 45 degree oriel windows adorn the ground floor.

The project involves a single storey extension which aims to improve accessibility and provide additional space for the residents, including a wet-room, conservatory and accessible kitchen. Large extents of roof glazing provide borrowed daylight into the refurbished spaces.

A key design feature is the curved corner of the extension, topped with a custom design skylight, which aims to compliment the existing house and balance to overall composition.

The project is being developed ahead of a planning pre-application and consultation with the local Civic Society, ahead of planning submission in winter 2024

GORSE HILL, TRAFFORD

Our site is an end of terrace plot in the Gorse Hill area of Streford, Greater Manchester. A combined public sewer partially bisects the site, which limits the overall width of the developable area. Our proposal involves a two storey dwelling which is two thirds of the width of the standard terrace which dominates the local context.

Our studies have considered the architectural rhythm of the terrace the articulation in relation to the emerging Trafford Design Code. Traditional elements such as a new chimney breast, decorative brick work and sash window will be combined with more contemporary elements including a square proportion bay window, rooflights and a flat grass roof to the rear. The project was submitted to Trafford LPA in June 2024.

EXPLORING RESIDENTIAL CAPACITY
HOTWELLs

BRISTOL

A quick study considering residential capacity of a site on Hotwell Road, within the Clifton and Hotwells Conservation Area in Bristol. The site is approximately 750m2 in an ‘L’ shaped configuration, with potential to front the road and the residential development to the south and elevated views towards the floating harbour. Our studies involved a range of options, from a simple apartment block with mews houses to a single plot with staggered garden terraces facing south. The accommodation is 1 bedroom, 2 bedroom and 3 bedroom apartments with a provision for accessible units with private parking.

Our accommodation studies are to support developer’s appraisals for brownfield or greenfield sites; we offer a quick turnaround of schemes which are grounded in relevant local planning policies.
